2007 Toy Run Information
The 16th Annual Haywood County Motorcycle Parade and Toy Run was held on
Saturday, November 10, 2007
The ride started at Pisgah High under bright blue skies with temperatures in the mid-50's. By High Noon and the start of the parade, 984 bikes had registered and were lined up and ready to go following the "blessing of the ride" by Captain Craig Gontner of the Salvation Army. Riders proceeded under escort south on NC 110 and then north on US 276 through Waynesville before terminating at the Wheels Through Time Museum. This was the 6th year that the Museum has hosted the end of the run.
Once again Master Cook Dicky King and his crew of barbecue specialists spent 36 hours preparing 505 lbs of pork butt for the delight of the participants. In addition to the barbecue, the assembled group consumed 80 pounds of slaw, 4 cases of beans, and 1200 buns. King and his assistants were on-site at the Museum preparing the food from 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 9th through clean up at 4:00 p.m. on November 10th.
This was the year of the WOMAN as women carried off all but 1 of the primary prizes and raffles. Yvette Thomason won the outstanding jacket donated by Waynesville Cycle Center, a female resident of Massachusetts won the Museum's bike raffle of the 1936 Harley built by Dale Walksler, a woman won the scooter raffled off by the Haywood Sheriff's Department, and finally a woman won one of the two 50/25/25 drawings.
